In an interview with the Thurgauer Zeitung, the 27-year-old talks about the reasons for his departure from HC Thurgau.

"I did not want to leave HCT," Schwendener states. "It is no secret that head coach Stephan Mair and I butted heads here and there." He also adds that he knows he also said things at times he should not have, but that his intention always was to improve the team as a whole.

Ralph Ott, a member of the board of directors, confirms that it was indeed HC Thurgau who wanted to dissolve the contract with the goaltender. The decision was supported by the board of directors and the sports commission. He also reveals that they will also try to acquire a National League goaltender via B-license.

As for Schwendener's future, he wants to continue to play. He does not have to rush to find a new team as his agreement with HC Thurgau stipulates that he does not need to leave Thurgau immediately: "I am now at the prime age for a hockey goalie. I have invested too much in this sport to quit now."
