As reported by the Thurgauer Zeitung, Stephan Mair will not extend his contract beyond this season. Mair has been with HC Thurgau for the past six seasons. The contract of assistant coach Benjamin Winkler, on the other hand, has been extended for another season.
While HC Thurgau confirms the departure of the head coach, it is not yet clear where he will coach next. As the Thurgauer Zeitung speculates, Mair's future will likely not be in Switzerland - despite rumors that the SCL Tigers have taken an interest in him.
There are apparently signs that he will continue his career back home, coaching the HC Pustertal Wölfe in the ICEHL. He already coached the team from 2008 to 2011.
