The financial support, decided by the board of directors of the National League AG and of the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation, will be a one-time contribution for the next season. The National League AG is already supporting the Swiss League with 0.5 million francs.
Patrick Bloch, CEO of the SIHF, is glad that a financial solution is now in place for the Swiss League: "The solution shows that the Swiss League is an important entity in Swiss ice hockey, especially with regard to the further development of young Swiss players, for Swiss coaches but also for Swiss referees".
Now that the financial support has been arranged, the clubs of the Swiss League and of the MyHockey League can make a final decision regarding their intentions for a voluntary relegation to the MyHockey League, respectively a promotion to the Swiss League. By mid-February at the latest, it will be thus known how the two leagues will be composed in the 2023-24 season.
