A severe knee injury has kept SC Langenthal's Marco Schüpbach out of the lineup for the entire 2016-17 season. While he is at the end of his contract with Langenthal, he does want to return to the ice next year - if possible.

"I hope I can play again next season," the 38-year-old defenseman tells the Zofinger Tagblatt. "After the season, we will have a talk and look at my options." Those talks will not only involve the team's staff but also his doctors.

Originally, Schüpbach's return was planned for January 2017. However, his recovery did not go as smoothly as hoped, as he was not able to use his knee the way he should be able to due to a metal plate. The plate has now been removed and Schüpbach is feeling better, but it remains to be seen if he will able to lace his skates up again for the upcoming season.
