The 25-year-old, who was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, signed with SaiPa of the Finnish Liiga last summer. However, his one-year contract was terminated in December and he did not sign with another team again.
In 21 Liiga games for SaiPa last term, McFarland managed to score nine points (three goals, six assists).
