As SC Langenthal announces, defenseman Marco Schüpbach has decided to hang up his skates. He will, however, continue to work in SCL's youth hockey department.

Schüpbach, who did not play a single game in the 2016-17 season, due to a severe knee injury, had told the Zofinger Tagblatt in mid-April that he would like to continue to play. Now, however, the 38-year-old has decided to call it a career. He will nonetheless stay with SCL. He has been working in their youth department for two years already and will now take on more responsibility.

Schüpbach, who joined SC Langenthal in 2014, appeared in 100 NLA and 852 NLB games in his career. In those NLB games, he managed to score 69 goals and 172 assists for a total of 241 points.
