He suited up for the SCRJ Lakers between 2011 and 2015, before he continued his career both as a player and coach with the Belfast Giants in UK's EIHL. Now, at 39, Derrick Walser has decided to hang up his skates.​

Howsoever, Walser remains in the hockey business. The Canadian will join the Peterborough Petes - a junior ice hockey team from the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - as assistant coach and serve as their third coach on the bench when the season begins on September 21 this year.

The native of New Glasgow (Nova Scotia, Canada) played nineteen seasons of professional hockey between the NHL (Columbus), the AHL (Syracuse, St. John, Albany, Toronto), the ECHL (Johnstown), the KHL (Chekhov), former National League A (SCRJ Lakers), the DEL (Berlin) and most recently the EIHL (Belfast Giants).

With the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in Switzerland's highest league, the Canadian defenseman appeared in a total of 185 games, in which he managed to put up 42 goals and 81 assists.
