The 24-year-old winger had already joined the team a couple of weeks ago when he received a one month tryout opportunity. Merola was able to impress the coaching staff earning him a contract. HC Ajoie writes, his commitment, his attitude and performance during preparation were pivotal. After one season with Red Ice Martigny and their bankruptcy this summer, he had to find a new employer.
Merola, a product of HC Sierre's youth organisation, played most of his career in the Swiss League for HC La Chaux-de-Fonds and Red Ice Martigny. In a total of 203 games he scored 51 goals and 39 assists. In 49 games for HC Fribourg-Gottéron in the National League, Merola put up three goals.
