Mark Streit has cleared unconditional waivers. The contract between him and the Montreal Canadiens has thus been terminated.

The 39-year-old defenseman was put on waivers by the Canadiens last week. However, Streit decided not to report to the Laval Rocket, the Habs' AHL affiliate. The Canadiens and he then mutually agreed to end his contract.

Whether he will continue his career in Europe or decide to retire is not yet clear. Streit signed a one-year deal with Montreal on July 25. In the two games he played for the Canadiens this season, he remained off the scoresheet.
