The defenseman has signed a two-year, one-way deal with the NHL team, which will earn him $700,000 in the first year and $750,000 in the second year. Kukan has appeared in ten games for the Jackets this season, recording four assists. He is currently out of the lineup due to an upper-body injury.

Several Swiss teams were also interested in the Swiss defender, among them HC Lugano and SC Bern. He has now opted to stay in Columbus. Watson also states that the Anaheim Ducks' Reto Berra has not yet made a decision regarding his future. He has a deal in place with HC Fribourg-Gottéron for the upcoming season.
