With the 101st pick overall, the New York Rangers have drafted Swiss defenseman Nico Gross. He is the first Swiss player to be selected today.

The 18-year-old defenseman was loaned to the Oshawa Generals of the OHL this past season. He appeared in 63 games for them, recording three goals and ten assists. Gross joined EV Zug’s organization in 2014 from EHC St. Moritz. In the 2016-17 season, Nico played his first professional games, putting up nine assists in 33 games for the EVZ Academy (Swiss League).

Gross played both in the U18 World Championship and the World Juniors. While he was an assistant captain at the U20 level, he captained the U18 team. In six games for the U18 team at the World Championship in Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk, he recorded one goal and four assists.
