The New York Islanders have signed the 29-year-old to a professional try-out (PTO) and keep him on board for a little longer.

As sports writer Andrew Gross (Newsday) reports, the PTO allows Luca Sbisa to extend his stay with the Islanders and also head into training camp with the team with which he had been practicing for the past couple of days.

Luca Sbisa was already part of the New York Islanders for the past season. The defenseman, however, only suited up in a total of nine games (one assist). The 29-year-old has played in the NHL since 2008.
