TSN-Insider Pierre LeBrun was the first to announce that the Devils are close to locking up their No. 1 Draft Pick from 2017 to a new seven-year deal. Hischier and the Devils were closing in on a deal which is worth an average annual value of $7.25 million, LeBrun reported.

Only about twenty minutes later, Sportsnet wrote that they can confirm the deal between the Devils and Hischier, who is currently in his final contracted year in New Jersey and was set to become a restricted free agent (RFA) by the end of the season. The Devils then also confirmed the deal.

With Hischier, the Devils can count on a key player for years to come. In 157 career games with New Jersey, the 20-year-old forward recorded 101 points (37 goals).
