The New Jersey Devils will not loan the first-overall pick of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft to a European team.

As Nico Hischier's agent Gäetan Voisard tells Le Nouvelliste, the Devils refused to give him the go-ahead due to insurance and safety reasons: "Their decision is perfectly understandable when you know the importance of Nico's contract with the Devils." Hischier is expected back in New Jersey for the second half of October.

Hischier himself stated in the SRF program Sportpanorama back in June that he would not exclude the possibility of playing in Switzerland if there was an opportunity for him, but that he did not know how that would work contractually.
