Only one thing is clear for the 41-year-old forward: he will play in the 2020-21 season.

Thornton spoke to Pierre LeBrun (The Athletic), making clear that he is in no hurry to sign a new deal. Calling LeBrun from Switzerland, where the forward lives in the offseason, "Jumbo" also once again reiterated that he might play some games in the National League.

Thornton, who was drafted by the Boston Bruins, has been part of the San Jose Sharks' organization since the 2005-06 season. It remains to be seen whether Thornton will return the Sharks or if he will try to sign a new deal with a contender.
