The 2020-21 NHL season is about to start tonight. While several Swiss players have been placed on the "taxi squad", Yannick Weber was released from his PTO.

What future for Yannick Weber?
Jim Diamond

When speaking of "taxi squad", it means the following: each NHL team gets to keep four to six players in reserve, and those players get a chance to play in the 2020-21 season if a player cannot play due to the NHL's Covid-19 protocol.

Considering that, following Swiss players have been put on the so-called "taxi squad" by their teams so far:

  • Philipp Kurashev (Chicago Blackhawks)
  • Gilles Senn (New Jersey Devils)

On another note, Yannick Weber, who signed a professional try-out contract (PTO) with the Nashville Predators a few weeks ago, was released from it today. His future is unknown so far.

As for Luca Sbisa, who was claimed off waivers by the Predators on Tuesday, he has been designated as a "non-roster player" by the NHL-franchise.
