The 18-year-old Swiss center took part in the Los Angeles Kings' rookie camp and was invited to attend their main training camp a few days ago.

Canonica was available for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft but did not get picked by an NHL team this year. The forward is a product of HC Lugano's organization and has been playing in North America since last season.

The forward recorded eleven goals and eight assists in 20 games for the U20 team of HCL last season. He also appeared in 24 regular-season games for the Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL), putting up six goals and ten assists. He is slated to play in the QMJHL this season.
