Nino Niederreiter's contract with the Carolina Hurricanes is set to expire in a few days and thus, the Swiss forward is a pending unrestricted free agent. When free agency will begin on July 13, Niederreiter will be free to sign with whatever interested team he prefers.

At the moment, however, a return to the Carolina Hurricanes is not out of the question: “We don’t rule the Canes out at this point for sure" states Rufener to the same source. His current contract was worth $5.25 million AAV (average annual value).

Niederreiter joined the Hurricanes in January 2019 after being traded from the Minnesota Wild. In the last season in Raleigh, the 29-year-old scored 28 goals and picked up 21 assists in 89 games.
