As the Florida Panthers announce, they have called up Reto Berra. Denis Malgin (photo), on the other hand, has been reassigned to the Springfield Thunderbirds.

For Berra, it is the first call up of the season. James Reimer has flown home to be with his wife as she gives birth. Thus, Berra has been recalled to back up Roberto Luongo against the Vancouver Canucks, as George Richards (Miami Herald) reports. Berra has appeared in 20 games for the Panthers' AHL affiliate, posting a 0.918 save percentage.

As for Denis Malgin, he, surprisingly at that time, made the Panthers out of training camp and has played 39 games for them this season, scoring four goals and four assists. It will be his first stint in the AHL.
