Rumor

The coach of the ZSC Lions seems to have caught the eye of a KHL team.

As Sport-Express.ru journalist Mikhail Zislis (relayed by sport.ru) reports, he heard Rikard Gönborg's name a couple of times in connection with Avangard Omsk. He apparently is their main candidate for their head coach position.

As Zislis writes, he originally thought that Grönborg is in play for next season, but he was "told that Grönborg has a clause in his contract which would allow him to terminate his deal early if he receives an offer from a KHL team."

When the ZSC Lions announced Grönborg's early contract extension last year, the club only mentioned an NHL out clause that is valid until the end of 2021. His contract with the ZSC Lions, on the other hand, is valid until the end of the 2022-23 season.
