Spengler Cup

Currently an unrestricted free agent in the NHL, the 40-year-old might play with Team Canada at the Spengler Cup, Sportsnet's Eliotte Friedman reports.

After having a minor hip surgery, the future Hall of Famer is expected to resume skating in the next two weeks and, apparently, there have been talks with Hockey Canada about his role in upcoming tournaments. "I think Team Canada has re-extended the invitation," Eliotte Friedman said on Hockey Night in Canada. "If he wants to play in the Spengler Cup before the Olympics, there will be a spot for him."

Although he has not played since April, Iginla is still hoping to find a team in the NHL, Sportsnet writes. However, if he actually finds a new employer, he would not be eligible to play in the Olympics. Either way, the Spengler Cup could be an opportunity to showcase himself and make himself interesting for NHL-teams or to join Team Canada at the Olympics in Pyeongchang.
