Reaching the final in last year's Spengler Cup, there was hope the Swiss national team would return to Davos during the last week of this year. However, this will not be the case. "Unfortunately, we were not able to find a solution. The national team will not be a part of the Spengler Cup in 2018", Gaudenz Domenig, president of HCD, said to watson. Nevertheless, this does not mean the national team will never return.

"With the participation of a second national team besides Team Canada, we created a two-tier-tournament", the president of the organizational committee, Marc Gianola, said. If Switzerland was to compete again, it would be harder for club teams to win the tournament.
