As a result of a cooperation between the Spengler Cup and the Kontinental Hockey League, half of the contestants of this year's tournament are teams from the KHL: Jokerit Helsinki (FIN), Medvescak Zagreb (CRO), and Salavat Yulaev Ufa (RUS).

As the Schweiz am Sonntag reports, it has not yet been decided which two of the three teams would face each other for a regular KHL game at Vaillant Arena in Davos. A possible date for the game might be December 24 in the afternoon.

Furthermore, it looks promising that sooner or later a Swedish top team will take part in the Spengler Cup. According to OK-president Fredy Pargätzi, the clubs are highly interested. However, the SHL wants to define fixed criteria to decide upon the question of which team would be eligible to represent Sweden.
