As Watson's Klaus Zaugg first reported, the 17 positive cases on HC Davos' squad have caused this year's edition of the Spengler Cup to be cancelled. It is the second time in two years that it will not take place.

The Canton of Graubünden and the organizing committee made the final decision this morning and confirmed the news in the early afternoon. They came to the conclusion that due to the high number of cases the epidemiological requirements for the staging of the major event were no longer met.

The first game would have taken place tomorrow Sunday, December 26, with Slovan Bratislava facing off against Frölunda HC.

Earlier today, Slovak hockey insider Tomáš Prokop tweeted that Bratislava did not travel to Switzerland due to multiple positive Covid-cases on one of the participating teams.
