The sixth team for the 2023 Spengler Cup has been announced: the Liiga's KalPa. Their last appearance in 2018 was crowned by a shootout win in the final against Team Canada. One and a half years ago they were supposed to attend the tournament again, but Covid-19 and the canton of Grisons had other plans.

With the team from Kuopio, the 95th edition will now have three recent champions as returning participants, with HC Ambrì-Piotta winning in 2022 and Team Canada having won four of the last six titles. They are accompanied by host HC Davos (last title in 2011), Frölunda HC and HC Dynamo Pardubice.
