Swiss National Team

The forward has reacted to a statement made by Patrick Fischer to Watson two weeks ago.

Fischer told Watson at the time that Malgin would not be part of the national team this season, as he believed that the forward was not always looking forward to playing with the team.

"It is a pity how the national team coach has commented on me in the media. I always want to be there and play for the national team," Malgin now said in a statement on his Instagram. "The decision that I won't play for Switzerland this season was 100 percent not mine."

Questioned by the Neue Zürcher Zeitung about the forward's words, Patrick Fischer replied: "There were three stories: he missed the World Juniors, the prospect camp in Bern, and, last year, the World Championship. We have a policy that either you're all in - or you're not. The national team is not a bowl of cherries. Every player knows what the consequences are if you do not follow our invitation."

Malgin, who last played for the Swiss national team in the 2016-17 season, is not the only player who has to deal with those consequences: this apparently also applies to Dominik Schlumpf and Fabrice Herzog.
