Swiss National Team

Raphael Diaz and Simon Moser were part of the captain team at the Olympic Games. Both will no longer be invited to play for the national team.

According to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Raphael Diaz is not the only one to be forced out of the national team, Simon Moser, too, will no longer be called upon. Moser, who has played in three Olympic Games and seven Worlds, had also been notably absent from the roster for the World Championship preparation.

As Fischer states, his decision was made after the Olympic Games. He came to the conclusion that they needed some changes, in particular in regard to the leadership positions: "We were lacking a bit of fire." He also adds that it was not an easy decision, but that it had to be done for "the good of the national team."

While 36-year-old Diaz will now have to make way for other "good young defenders on the right side who deserve a chance", 38-year-old Ambühl is still part of the team. As Fischer states, the forward will help the team through the transition period: "He has experienced and seen everything, he will help us with his experience."
