It is the second Memorial Cup win for the Saint John Sea Dogs. The first eight minutes of the game already saw three goals, two by the Sea Dogs and one by the Bulldogs (scored by former EHC Olten player Mason McTavish).

In the second period, the Sea Dogs once again scored two goals within the first six minutes of the period, making it 4-1. Hamilton was only able to answer nine seconds before the end of the second period. Saint John also opened the scoring in the third period, making it 5-2. While Hamilton managed to put another goal into the net, they did not manage to close the gap and the Sea Dogs eventually won 6-3.

Swiss goaltender Nathan Patenaude and defenseman Vincent Despont were not part of the Saint John Sea Dogs' roster for the Memorial Cup and did not get to play in the tournament.
