Swiss Ice Hockey

As one of the decisions at today's league assembly, former National League player Ryan Gardner (retired last February) was elected as additional Player Safety Officer besides Stéphane Auger.

The two will work together closely. Gardner, 40, knows Swiss hockey very well thanks to his over a thousand games in the National League and his time with the Swiss national team. His experience will bring the view of the player into the safety department, which was a wish of teams and players.

Other than that, the new members of the appeals committee were elected. Those are Michael Rindlisbacher (president of the SIHF ad interim), Florian Kohler (CEO SIHF) and Matthias Berner.

There also was a change in the fighting rule for the National and the Swiss League. In the future, a player unwillingly forced into a fight and only defending himself may be punished with just a five-minute penalty. The Instigator will still receive an additional game misconduct penalty. If both players show the same willingness to engage in the fight, both will still receive the additional misconduct.

In the post-season, Monday- to Saturday-games will be starting at 8 pm instead of 8:15 pm from now on. The starting time of Sunday- and if needed Easter Monday-games remains 4:15 pm.
