Swiss Ice Hockey

This morning, club officials of the National League and Swiss League will discuss the new situation. The outcome seems clear.

No events and no practices allowed in Ticino until March 29.

"We have to be reasonable," ZSC Lions CEO Peter Zahner says to the Tages-Anzeiger, commenting about the most recent measures against the Coronavirus in the Ticino. "We can no longer finish the season in a decent, sporting, and fair way." In today's edition of Blick, Zahner is even more clear: "Due to this new constellation, there is no other option than to terminate the season."

Peter Zahner is not the only one with this opinion. "There are more important things than sport," HC Ambrì-Piotta's team manager Paolo Duca says to Blick and HC Lugano's CEO Marco Werder: "The way things are now, we can't play on. We're shut down." Also EHC Visp's CEO Sébastian Pico has a feeling what today's telephone conference will bring: "I think that's it," he says to the Walliser Bote.

For Raphaël Berger, HC Fribourg-Gottéron's CEO, at least one thing is certain: "It's an illusion to think that we can postpone the start of the series until the end of March," he says to the news agency Keystone-SDA. But what is the alternative? The minds in Swiss ice hockey seem to be made up: The season 2019-20 will end today.
