Schmid, currently engaged with the Corpus Christi IceRays in the North American Hockey League, received the chance to help out the United States Hockey League's Omaha Lancers. The USHL is the top tier junior hockey league in the US.

For Friday's game, Schmid served as the backup netminder. During Saturday's game, a 2-3 loss to the Sioux City Musketeers, the 18-year-old stopped 22 of 25 shots.

It is not yet known for how long the former SCL Tigers-goalie and New Jersey Devils prospect will remain with the Lancers.
