Although Michal Kempny will certainly miss the first two games of the season, Siegenthaler has still been sent down.

Due to Kempny's injury, there would have been an open spot in the defense for Siegenthaler. However, according to Isabelle Khurshudyan (Washington Post), the Washington Capitals decided to assign him to the Hershey Bears after all.

General manager Brian MacLellan also told media that Siegenthaler probably did not deserve to get sent down but with the addition of Dmitrij Jaškin (claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Blues today) and the pending suspension of Tom Wilson, it made sense to assign him to Hershey.

Siegenthaler is about to head into his second full season in North America. He has yet to make his debut in the NHL. Last season, he recorded six goals and six assists in 75 games for Hershey.
