As Isabelle Khurshudyan (Washington Post) writes, Siegenthaler was most likely reassigned so the Caps were able to clear roster space as well as salary-cap space in order to bring Christian Djoos back. Siegenthaler also does not have to clear waivers when being sent to the AHL, thus the Capitals do not risk losing him.

The defenseman has appeared in 25 games for the Caps this season, recording four assists. He has also played 14 games for the Hershey Bears (two assists).
