In Sweden, Victor Backman has signed a two-year deal with the SHL's Malmö Redhawks. In spite of a valid contract with the GCK Lions for the next season, he is allowed to leave Zurich because his deal includes an out-clause for a higher league.

"I understand Victor's decision, after two successful years in the Swiss League to take the leap into the highest Swedish league," GCK's team manager Patrick Hager says. Hager will now try to find a replacement for Backman in view of next season.

During his time in Zurich, Victor Backman also appeared in 18 regular season games with the ZSC Lions, in which he recorded twelve points (four goals). For the GCK Lions, Backman put up 78 points (29 goals) in 59 games.
