The "Warrior of the Year" Award is annually awarded to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship and dedication, career excellence, combined with community service and a high standard of playing ability.

Mathias Seger, who has been part of the ZSC Lions since 1999, just crowned his career with his sixth Swiss Championship title. The 40-year-old defender and ZSC's captain from 2005-2017 suited up in almost 1170 National League games (475 points) and took part in 16 World Championships as well as four Olympic Winter Games with the Swiss national team.

In addition to Seger, Christian Ehrhoff (Kölner Haie/DEL), Martin Erat (Kometa Brno/Extraliga), Tomi Kallio (TPS Turku/Liiga) and Riikka Välilä (HV71/SHL) are among the list of nominees. There is fan voting (click here), which will serve to advise the E.H.C. Expert Panel when determining the winner.

The winners of the "Warrior" and all the other awards will be announced and celebrated at the European Hockey Awards Dinner in Prague on 12 June 2018. A complete list of all the awards and nominees can be found here.
