The New Jersey Devils' 22-year-old defender sustained the injury from a hit delivered by John Hanley 18 seconds into last Sunday's clash with the Chicago Blackhawks (7-5 win). Müller, who left the arena with his arm in a sling, was placed on injured reserve (IR) by the Devils on Wednesday this week.

“We kind of had an idea when he wound up getting surgery with the type of injury he had,” coach John Hynes said. “It’s disappointing for him. He was really coming. He’s a good player for us, a young defenseman who really plays the way we want to play. Hopefully he has a quick rehab and comes back as an impact player for us later in the year.”

In 13 games for the New Jersey Devils since season start, Mirco Müller has managed to record two assists.
