The 32-year-old Swedish defender took a heavy shot to his knee from Russia's Ilya Kovalchuk in the second period and was not able to continue playing.
"I always have my protection a little loose and the leg protection must have jumped away. The pain in the first few minutes was unbearable, now it feels a bit better," Fransson told Aftonbladet after the game.
According to the Sweden's team doctor, Fransson is suffering from a knee contusion. Whether he will be good to go for Saturday's game against South Korea, however, remains to be seen.
