As former referee and current MySports employee Nadir Mandioni reports on Twitter, Wiegand broke his ankle in the 48th minute of play after an unfortunate collision with an EVZ player. It was Alessandro Dipietro, who took over Wiegand's responsibilities for the rest of the game.

Meanwhile, the SIHF has officially confirmed this news. As a consequence, the 39-year-old has to throw in the towel for the rest of season. After Vinnerborg (concussion), Wiegand is already the second full-time referee to end the season prematurely due to an injury.
