When the Czech national team take on Slovakia in their first game of the World Championship in Denmark on May 5, Fribourg's Michal Birner will not be there. According to La Liberté, the 32-year-old is experiencing problems with one of his knees. Nevertheless, it does not seem to be too serious. After talking to Birner, HCFG's team manager Christian Dubé says that Birner "felt fatigue in the knee" and that "it's only prevention".

This season, Michal Birner has appeared in 44 games for HC Fribourg-Gottéron, in which he scored twelve goals and added 22 assists for a total of 34 points. Birner's contract with Gottéron is valid for another season.
