Already having changed the format for this year to make following all the different restrictions easier, the still existing uncertainties and risks have forced the Champions Hockey League's board to fully chancel the 2020-21 season.

“All things considered, the CHL Board had to come to the very difficult conclusion that playing a 2020/21 season is not manageable for the Champions Hockey League or the participating clubs from both an operational and economic perspective”, Peter Zahner comments the situation. Having tried to make things work over the last couple of months, the CHL's president continues: “I would like to thank all of our participating clubs, shareholders, partners and everyone else involved for the support we received with preparations for this very unique 2020/21 season. The pandemic is beyond our control, this is a fact we unfortunately must accept.”

The decision affects the ZSC Lions, EV Zug, HC Davos, Genève-Servette HC as well as EHC Biel, who all would have represented Switzerland at the tournament.
