According to Stephan Roth (Blick), the defender wants to play at the World Championship with the Swiss national team but his team has yet to give him the go-ahead.

Kukan played only 25 regular season games for the Blue Jackets but then managed to secure himself a roster spot for Columbus' playoff run. He also scored his first NHL goal in Game 5 of the series against Boston.
