"The decision was not easy for me but the timing of the World Championship is very unfavorable in my current personal situation. I don't want to leave my heavily pregnant wife alone at the moment" explains Roman Josi. His wife and he are expecting their second child in June.

Head coach Patrick Fischer can nonetheless count on two more reinforcements as confirmed by the SIHF: defenseman Tobias Geisser, who was eliminated from the American Hockey League a few days ago with the Hershey Bears, and forward Philipp Kurashev of the Chicago Blackhawks, who tested positive for Covid-19 last week but has since recovered, have arrived in Helsinki.

For two players joining the team, two players have to leave: defender Lukas Frick and forward Nando Eggenberger will not suit up for Switzerland. Among the players who survived the last cut, five will debut in the World Championship: Sandro Aeschlimann, Dominik Egli, Andrea Glauser, Marco Miranda, and Calvin Thürkauf.
