The last game of the preliminary round set Switzerland up against the hosts, Latvia. The two teams went back and forth and settled on a 3-3 score (goals by Kevin Fiala, Marco Miranda, and Andres Ambühl) that sent the game into overtime. There, Rudolf Balcers converted on a powerplay to give Latvia the win. With today's loser point, Switzerland gathered a total of 19 points in seven games.
Next up for Switzerland is Germany. After three defeats against the three top teams of Group A, Germany won four straight games to end the preliminary round in fourth place. The quarterfinal game will take place on Thursday, May 25 at 15:20 CET.
