The tournament started so well. With six wins and 19 points, the Swiss national team sat on top of Group B after the preliminary round. But then came the quarterfinal against Germany, it was all or nothing - and nothing was the result.

In the seventh minute, the Germans scored the first goal of the game, courtesy of Maximilian Kastner. Early into the second period, Jonas Siegenthaler managed to tie it up. Then, disaster struck for Switzerland - J.J. Peterka scored with two minutes left, and just 36 seconds later, Nico Sturm found the back of the net for the Germans once more - shorthanded.

In the third period, the Swiss were desperately trying to break the German defense but did not manage to come back into the game.
