WOMEN'S LEAGUE

The Bianconeri have decided to pull out of the highest-tier Swiss league effective immediately.

In their statement, they mention that while women's hockey has gained more attention worldwide, "in our latitudes women's sports continue to face many (too many) challenges, including discrimination, lack of political, popular and media attention... inevitably leading to a low sponsorship presence."

With the influx of new teams supported by National League teams, the HC Lugano Ladies have now decided to "throw in the towel. There are no longer the necessary prerequisites to be able to continue to properly evolve a women's hockey team in full respect of the players and with the ambition to compete on a par with clubs that have rightly adopted a progressive approach to promote the sport."
