WOMEN'S LEAGUE

HC Lugano is right upon the ZSC Lions’ heels after two rounds in the Masterround of the Swiss Women’s Hockey Leauge. The Neuchâtel Hockey Academy fell back and SC Weinfelden is on a playoff spot thanks to two victories.

The two losers of the first two games in the Masterround are the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy and BOMO Thun. Neuchâtel, previously still co-leader, lost the two top games against HC Lugano and the ZSC Lions. Likewise, BOMO Thun had a bad start into the Masterround. At home, the Bernese lost in the shootout against Weinfelden – this was the second defeat against the same opponent within one week– and Lugano. Consequently, they are in fifth place now, one point behind Weinfelden, which is after three and a half years (78 games) in the fourth slot once again. For them, six players scored the nine goals this weekend. National team player Laura Trachsel (photo) scored the decisive penalty against BOMO Thun.

After the first two games of the Masterround, the battle for the playoffs spots start again. The ZSC Lions, HC Lugano, and the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy will fight for the top spot; SC Weinfelden and BOMO Thun will do battle for the fourth and last playoff spot.
