WOMEN'S LEAGUE

Last year’s Champion, the ZSC Lions, top the league once again before the one-month national team break. The Lions beat the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy on the road and are now one point ahead of HC Lugano, who did not play an SWHL game this weekend.

The Lions laid the foundation for their victory with two goals early on, both scored by Christine Meier. Neuchâtel’s Canadian player Breehan Polci got one back for her team, but in the 12th minute, Angela Taylor scored Zurich’s decisive third goal. Thanks to this victory against a team that was on their heels, the Lions top the league again and will remain on top of the SWHL A at least until they play HC Lugano on January 14.

And after 17 games, SC Reinach finally secured their first point of the season. They lost to Weinfelden in the shootout. For both teams, two national team players scored two goals each: Defender Sandra Thalmann for Reinach and the Hungarian national team player Andrea Kiss for Weinfelden. Due to this loss to the bottom club, Weinfelden’s chances to reach to playoffs were diminished again.

SWHL A, Results: Neuchâtel Hockey Academy – ZSC Lions 2-5 (1-3, 1-2, 0-0). Reinach – Weinfelden 2-3 SO. (1-0, 0-2, 1-0, 0-0, 0-1).

Standings: 1. ZSC Lions 7/30. 2. HC Lugano 6/29. 3. Neuchâtel Hockey Academy 7/21. 4. EV BOMO Thun 6/14. 5. SC Weinfelden 7/11. 6. SC Reinach 7/1.
