WOMEN'S LEAGUE

The playoffs spots in the Swiss Women’s Hockey League are taken. One round before the end of the regular season, the ZSC Lions will be the winner of this regular season. They will battle for the Championship in the playoffs alongside HC Lugano, the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy, and Bomo Thun. SC Weinfelden and SC Reinach will meet in the playouts.

The Lions, coached by Christof Amsler (photo), sealed the deal against HC Lugano with a 1-0 victory on home ice. Even though Lugano could technically surpass them with two wins, it is unlikely that the Lions will lose the final game of the regular season in Weinfelden. In this game, the “golden goal” for the Lions was scored by Angela Taylor, 25 seconds before the end of the second period. With this victory, the duel between the two arch-rivals is now 2-2 this season. Both teams have won their home games.

In the semi-finals, which start on January 28, the ZSC Lions will face BOMO Thun and HC Lugano will play against the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy. The Lions won all four regular season games against Thun; Lugano was victorious in three out of four games against Neuchâtel and won both of their away games.

In the playouts, SC Weinfelden will face SC Reinach. The team from Thurgovia won all four regular season games, albeit the last one was a shootout victory.
