Swiss Women's Hockey League

The ZSC Lions, the defending champions, lived up to everyone's expectations with two straight victories against EV BOMO Thun in the playoff semi-finals of the Swiss Women’s Hockey League. In the other series, HC Lugano and the Neuchâtel Hockey Academy are tied at 1-1.

However, the games this weekend were not one-sided. The Lions may have won both games against Thun; however, those games were tighter than one could have expected. In their home game on Saturday, for instance, the Lions scored the game-winning goal in the 50th minute of play.

HC Lugano, last season's runner-up who is also the favorite in this series with three regular season wins against Neuchâtel, fell short of their expectations. The Ticinese gave away a 2-0 lead in the first game and eventually won in overtime. In the second game, Lugano tied the game ten minutes into the third period before Neuchâtel sealed the deal with two goals in the last minutes.

The playout series between SC Weinfelden and SC Reinach is also tied at 1-1. Both teams won their respective home game.

Now, the teams have two weeks off before their next games on February 18 and 19. Next weekend, there is the final tournament of the Swiss Women’s Hockey Cup and one week later, the national team will fight for a spot in the 2018 Olympics at the qualification tournament in Arosa.
