Over the course of the last ten years, the number of licensed female players have more than doubled. In the past season alone, the number has seen a ten per cent increase - the largest increase in the past ten years. Not counting all the youngest girls playing without a license, as many as 1,376 women have been in posession of a player's license last season.

Moreover, the SIHF announces some changes to the format of the Swiss women's hockey leagues. Whereas in the SWHL A everything remains the same, the SWHL B now consists of ten teams. Meyrin has pulled out of the league and is now in the SWHL C. Also Schaffhausen, the Ambrì-Piotta Ticino Girls, and Wisle take to the ice in the SWHL C in the upcoming season.

In the SWHL C, there are also some changes in the format: As of next season, the 28 teams will be divided into four groups. At the end of the season, the best team is going to be promoted to the SWHL B and the remaining top-10 are supposed to build a new league of their own for the 2018-19 season.
